I just wanted to take a moment to announce a writing project that I’m currently hosting here at Writing with Brad, called Spark’s World. Sparks aka Rainbow Sparkle Middleton was a character I started writing for a failed project, but I couldn’t simply get her out of my mind. Her story will go nowhere since I really don’t have the desire to write about a teenage rape victim, but she is a serious character who I thought needed a home, thus we get Sparks World.

The project is collaborative in two ways. Anyone is free to write a character based on the guidelines I set forth. You don’t have to write a story about your character, only create the character with enough information for other writers to get a feel who that person is. The second part I just alluded to is writing stories based on established characters. You are of course free to create and claim your own characters as well. However if you start using another person’s character, I ask that you create at least one new character to keep the pool of characters open.

This project has three main goals. First I wanted a place to collaborate with other authors. Secondly, I thought it would be a good place for any writer wanting to practice our craft with ideas that just don’t fit anywhere else. Lastly, I believe Sparks World is interesting enough that we could put a book together and just maybe make a few bucks.

I have signed up for the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) which begins November 1, 2009. This is my first year of making this commitment. I had planned on doing it last year, but with my daughters due date on 11-08-08 there was no way in hell I was going to commit myself to this sort of project.

This year I am committing myself to reducing a three million word mess I haven’t touched in forever into something resembling a coherent story. Stay tuned for more updates on O’Neil’s World.
